Spinal Deformities in Captive Sand Tiger Sharks: What Have We Learned?

Dr. Huber is an Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Tampa where he teaches a variety of courses in Anatomy, Physiology, Ecology, and Evolution. He and colleagues from The Florida Aquarium have focused their attention on causes of spinal deformity in captive and tiger sharks to improve husbandry practices and reduce pressure on wild populations for exhibit specimens. Dr. Huber has been featured in a variety of media outlets, ranging from prime-time television to children’s books.  He has appeared in nine shows on National Geographic, Discovery Channel, and the History Channel, and his research on the feeding biomechanics of white sharks and recently listed in Discover’s Magazine’s Top 100 Science Stories of the Year.
